My preferred method of previewing files is to go to LW Library window -> incomplete folder & find the file in question & press Launch button. By doing that it stops a preview file being created. This is especially efficient for video files which of course are much larger in size.

Not sure what you mean here. If you mean the preview files, I think that would also be a good idea. As for incomplete files, you can set days to keep them in your Tools > Options > Saving option window. The default is 7 days, though I have mine set to 9999 days. The more incomplete files you have the slower LW becomes, so it can be wise to sometimes do this:
Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link) which are Mac instructions but same principle applies.
The incomplete folder also of course picks up junk file listings you may choose to download accidentally at times. Also for some odd reason, LW creates a second incomplete file for some downloads & ignores the first, which has been an issue ever since I've used LW since version 2.
And yes as suggested by Blackhorse 70V, there are those odd but not common occasions a completed file doesn't transfer from incomplete folder to your completed download folder.
