I am having same problem since several months.
Did all that came to my mind: reinstalled java, reinstalld LW, turned off firewall.
No way!
LW WAS working once..... then some update (Java? Vista?) probably were the cause.
Now LW does not even show splash scree.
I can start it in W2K compatibility mode, but then it crashes.
I gave up.
