New Copyright laws in New Zealand It looks like good ole newzealand is stuffed for downloading music.
I just read this in our Netguide magazine
The govt is standing firm on controversial changes to the copyright laws that require ISP's to disconnect repeat infringers.
The changes to copyright legislation covering digital technology will take effect on October 31st with the exception of section 92a which requires ISP's to have, and reasonably implement, a policy for termination of accounts of repeat copyright infringers. This provision is aimed at Internet users who breach copyright laws by downloading music, movies and other material from illicit sources.
The Telecomms industry is deeply unhappy about this section, saying it undermines the legal rights of Internet users and puts ISPs in the unwelcome role of Internet policemen. There was other stuff mentioned but it was all in legalese. I'll just have to wait and see what happens but it doesn't look to good. |
