VLC can play mp4 audio & video files. Some video mp4 files are mpeg 4, some H.264. Check Movie download issues (click on blue link) for more information.

Be aware some mp4 audio files are licenced via DRM, thus only the original purchaser can play them. O.o

For alternate audio players, check Alternate Audio Players & support plug-ins
