Spam affects everyone. Does not matter which version you use, pro or basic, or a different gnutella program.
The idea is to learn to recognise the spam & designate it as junk & then leave it at bottom of search results.
BTW the new LW 5 when it eventually is released will have some built in spam reduction via known ip banning of spammers.
In meantime, here's the spam sizes you can learn to beware of
Virus thread: Typical virus spam file sizes - Make a note of them (click on blue link to see). I always arrange my search results by size by clicking the top of the Size heading bar twice which puts the largest at the top.
Some other things you can do to help:
(a) Check 'both' links in this thread as one deals with general spam terms also to add to your filter list:
Direct instructions to eliminate porn from results
(b)
Problems with the search. There are more spam ultrapeers out there too. Sometimes you connect directly to them. Thus more spam than usual.
(c)
Hostiles List. This should be updated regularly.
Personally I find LW Pro is better for seeking out the rarer files. Not the commonly found ones. Pro's advantages over Basic are small & subtle. For example, with Pro you can download from 10 hosts per downloading file, instead of Basic's 8 hosts per file. Pro has a slightly better ability at reaching further in searches, this applies when searching for not so common terms. Because LW Pro connects to 5 ultrapeers instead of Basic's 3, it means there are more people the searches are going through.
