Oh you were running the application from the external drive. I used to do that with iTunes with my iTunes on an external drive (as well as the library).

Yes, if it works ok then sounds good. LW is probably more fussy than some other programs. Keep in mind OSX's Java is not as good as the windows & linux version Java made directly by Sun systems.
