Not sure why your LimeWire program is on your desktop. Only the installer should be on the desktop after you mount the dmg installation image. By default the installer installs the LimeWire program into the Applications folder with an alias to it on the desktop. Find the
Go menu -> Applications so it opens, then find LimeWire folder, open it, drag & drop the LimeWire program into the Dock. Now click on the LimeWire icon in the Dock.
(an Alias is similar to the Shortcut in Windows in case you didn't know, but much more reliable since it was originally a mac concept.)
