LW has Always be somewhat of a Resource Hog and may be hampering everything else that is running. I don't use LW anymore and have never tried LW 5.x.xx so I'm just guessing here.
If you just want to listen to your music files, make a desktop shortcut from your saved/shared folder and that way you don't have to have LW open just to listen to music. DON'T Save your files to the desktop, but make a shortcut.
