I do use the shortcuts, (sometimes). When I close windows I usually use the red button and it does not quit Firefox, Thunderbird, Fetch, PageSpinner, etc. just closes the window. Sometimes I prefer to close the window rather than put it in the dock. Get too much in the dock.
