it is a known problem that sometimes things can go awry and drives simply disappear and are not automatically re-detected....
it would appear from the wording of the above posts that the drive at some point was available via My Computer and has now disappeared....which would of course indicate that it was installed correctly (i.e. plugged into the PSU and connected via a cable to the MoBo and appropriately set up as either master or slave if that was required for the system) and compatible with the OS when it was working...
sure, the drive might just up and die completely or become unplugged from either the power cable or the cable to the MoBo (either IDE or SATA) which of course should be checked if the drive fails to be present at the BIOS level....
