You are right, but we (as Westerners that believe in democracy) should not put up with these “authorities” awarding themselves extra judicial powers and imposing their “values” on us.
As I said before, we have throughout the 20th century seen how devastating it can be when a small group of self-appointed and unaccountable people enforce their views of “right and wrong” on the rest of the population.
After all isn’t this how Hoover started out, the self-appointed saviour of America.
