1. What happens if you click on one of these shortcuts?

2. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Transfers. Where does it say LW is set to download files to?
Default location is C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/My Documents
I'd suggest it's best to change it back to this location. See LW 5 Download Location - and how to change location if preferred (click on link)

Question is how you are getting shortcuts on the desktop if that is what they are.
