Default Another Download Tuesday Goes Wrong

Dear Forum Members

Like most PC owners running a Windows OS, I always download the security updates when they come along, simply because computer security is my number 1 priority. However, as some members may recall, I have had times, especially when I had my old pentium PC, when certain updates have caused more problems than the ones they were supposed to cure.

As you can see form my first screen print, Microsoft want to install "MS .Net Framework 1.1 SP1" on my PC but as you can see from my second screen print the update failed.

I thought, this was strange, security updates have never failed to install before, so I checked "Add or Remove, in my control panel, and found that "MS .Net Framework 3.5 SP1" already existed. In fact, the MS .Net Framework installations range from v1.1 through to v3.5 SP1.

Anyway, since I have some control over the updates that are installed, I never choose the recommended "Express" option, I cancelled this particular troublesome and unnecessary one.

I always thought that MS update installation mechanisms checked to see whether your O/S actually needed any updates and if so which ones, seems like MS systems failed to do a complete check.
