Thanks for your replies Lord.
I was loving v.4.18.8 until they came out with the first v.5, which I thought was terrible (why keep "fixing" LW when it wasn't broken?). After that, I continued to download the latest versions until 2010 when it was shut down, and liked the latest version of 5.x by then (don't remember the exact version number). LPE, as you know, was working fine until Java 7 came out. I'm still hoping for a newer, re-tweaked version of LW that can just be installed normally, without a shortcut to the jar file or to anything else, etc., and run with any new versions of Java that come out in the future. Hope to keep updated about that.
BTW: Checking the box that I want to receive email notices whenever something on the Gnutella forum is posted so as to keep up-to-date does not work. I have not been getting anything from Gnutella. I have to go back and log in myself to check to see if anyone has posted anything new/answers to my questions. Don't know why this option isn't working for me.
I've got v.4.18.8 installed with Java 7, Update 5, and FX 2.1.1 (which just installs automatically with it), and it's running OK. I have unchecked those file types I do NOT wish LW to filter out of my search results. Thanks for the input about the security concerns about each of the 4 file types you can check.
As for OOB searching, I'm still a little unclear. Does enabling it mean it might adversely affect my own internet connection performance, or does it mean it will not connect to some sources (peers?) of content I'm looking for, so that I will get a lower total number of/more limited results? I'm not noticing (yet) any performance problems having OOB enabled. ????
Thanks again.
