are you sure that limewire uses the text written in some windows desktop link while it is a operating system independent client!?

I don't think so and I know for sure that the version number is set in the source code - therefor within the program.
maybe you are using 2.3!? if you have downloaded 2.4 and installed it also - you should use the 2.4 link to sart it maybe that's the problem.
