I saw a post last Saturday, in a different forum, the writer said he had seen a newspaper article suggesting that MS was going to put a quick end to W8.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to find the post again, but whenever I come across a debate about "XP End of Life", Win7, Win8 or a combination thereof there is always a majority against, rather than for, Win8. From my own limited experience with Win8, I can understand why it is almost universally disliked.

And I think that MS has made the same mistake it made with Vista, i.e. Win8 gets in the way just like Vista did. And this is why Vista "bit the dust". I also believe that when corporates did their cost analysis changing to Vista proved too costly.

Simply because if you (i.e. most of us) ran an organisation looking to upgrade from XP would you really want the hassle of budgeting for staff retraining, re-writing corporate legacy software, buying new IT kit (again, because W8 will not work with legacy HW). These are all costly downtime which adds negatively to a company's revenue stream.

While most techies love the product, revelling it's intellectual challenges, because they are only responsible for making the thing work, rather than the actual cost of making it work for everyone in a company.

I don't know how long Win8 will last, but one thing is for sure MS will struggle to keep it going.
