If Micro$oft Word is creating havoc with the gnutella
.net file, change the file's properties to be opened by WordPad instead. WordPad should not affect the properties of the .net file. Unless you have changed the document's properties from text only to formatted or some other kind of text type (which MS Word tends to do.)
Alternatively set the file to be opened by NotePad or 'None', but if you personally open the file it will open without line formatting. By default the gnutella.net file uses Linux/OSX style EOL and UTF-8.
