I cannot recall the exact specific processes with iPod with how it works. I might suggest a backup of the music somewhere just in case. Then give it a try. I presume you have some form of backup archiving?

I should note that I have read where people have had issues on Windows where their iPod refused to be accepted on a different machine. That information comes from personal reviews about iTunes for Windows.

If that happens to you then I guess you could ask on the iTunes forum and hope someone with wisdom can help you solve the issue. Although to my understanding nowadays the iTunes forum also sleeps sometimes like here.
