i was a beginner with limewire 1.4 and i learned to appreaciate it a lot! but then i got wiser, (thanks to these forums) and i was tired of being a 'beta' tester (there were tons of problems back then) and i learned about the new spyware problems which limewire at first flatly denied, and now i have moved on.... with the more frequent occurrences of ads and spyware there have been many new programs which use the gnutella network that dont have any spyware and such.
i am now currently using aqualime which works great! it is the retro version which looks like the old 1.4 limewire. it uses ultrapeers too. look around at
www.unitethecows.com or
www.zeropaid.com for this. also look for a beta version of xolox which is gnutella. i have just downloaded the new version of gnucleus which is susposed to be free of ads and spyware and uses ultrapeers but i haven tried it yet...here is their site:
http://www.gnucleus.com/
also, i am using winmx- the new beta which runs on 'opennap' source code. this too is ad free and spyware free. winmx for me on a dialup is 'the' fastest and most reliable i have found. get it here at
www.winmx.com
basically, to the developers at limewire... people dont want ads or spyware and they dont want to pay for that privilage either. as long as there is open source there will be people who will release adfree and spywarefree versions of popular gnutella programs. in my opinion, you would do better to get back on the bandwagon or face internet oblivion.
