Developers spend a lot of time and money to do their projects and they should get something for that. They can't charge for the program, as most of the p2p applications are free. Therefore, the only way they can make money is by putting ads (not necessarily spyware). They can be in the program's site, or in the program itself, but I don't consider them as an 'evil' thing.
