The recording industry is stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. MP3s are going to be in full swing until a fundamental change occurs in the CDROM/CDDA format, which could stop ripping of the music, but also require a new player. I could see them doing this, like they did when the compact disc first came around, and then over time push it heavily until everyone switched over to the newer secure format.
