Of course the LimeWire devs are the only ones who can tell for sure, but the current focus of the LimeWire developers seems to be improving the overall network performance.

Some of their current projects include bandwidth saving udp-replies, queueing support, gwebcache support... The mediaplayer has just been updated, but they only switched to a newer version of their mp3 library.
