Limewire is a bit different from the system in that, instead of moving a file to the Trash (where you can later restore a file instead of deleting it) it deletes it directly from the hard disk.

Normally when you delete a file, it only removes the pointer to the file in the hard disk's index - not the data itself. It is therefore sometimes possible to recover a file deleted in this way with a file-recovery utility such as Norton or Techtools Pro. To completely delete a file so that it can't be recovered you can use safe delete utilities in software such as Norton Utilities or Stuffit Deluxe. This will erase the data as well as the pointer.

Some government agencies, however, apparently have file-recovery systems that can recover files from a hard disk that has been formatted six times. To guard against this, I suggest you use a special deletion tool called a Hammer and apply it repeatedly to the disk.
