You file swithced to safe download mode because there was something wrong with the file, as safe download helps prevent downloading a bad file. The bad segments were dropped, so that they can be downloaded again. Ususally not that much is lost, however, that depends on the size of the file. (that is the way percentages are) These features are configurable in the preferences, and can be turned off.
