Sounds like iTunes has been set as the default player, and the only way to stop that is to set another player as default.

I'm not sure, cause I haven't tested it, but try opening QuickTime, then menu

Edit/Preferences/QuickTime Preferences

Then scroll to - Browser plug-in
and tick - Play movies automatically

This might have more chance of working if LimeWire is running, but I suspect it will only effect your nominated browser.

I haven't seen anything in LimeWire that lets you set a default player.

The other way is to re-set the creator code of the files as they are moved into the download folder, using Applescript. I've written a folder script that does exactly that, but it needs some cleaning up. You are welcome to it if you have problems.
