Yes, this is a problem, and you are not alone, but don't expect Pro Support to answer you in these discussion forums. Maybe the version that should come out this week will make it better. The problem is that there is no way to connect to hosts if they are not available, and if your Mac is behind a firewall or router, even less. Some ISP's are blocking gnutella traffic, and some traffic is being rejected. The problem is not simple, which is why a solution takes so long.
BTW--you posted in the Bearshare forum (for Windows users). Search for the "Limewire connections problems" or here's one to get you started:
