Hello!
Maybe the printer that you have installed is a network printer and have somehow messed up your network settings. Try to disconnect it and see what happens.
The search button will always be greyed out if you are disconnected to Gnutella. Are the ball in the bottom left corner green or red?. If red then you are disconnected and have to connect. Use the connect option under the File menu.
Also you can try to perform a search by hiting enter/return instead of using the search button. This will also initiate a search.
