LimeWire is a cross platform server/client file sharing program. Since they both follow the 0.4 Gnutella protocol, they are compatible. Your linux LW is not getting good connections for reasons other than cross platform compatability. I haven't even gotten LW to work on my Linux setup yet, so I can't tell you any more than what I already have.
