I think manual requerying should help, if you think of all the doomed requests that are continually sending packets around the globe, using up more of the pipe.

Not sure what the GDF is, but I will keep an eye out for it.


re compression: my first thought was similar to what Windows uses by way of a settings choice, or at least used to, in the days of the modem. Error correction and compression, which was supposed to help keep troublesome ISP connections from dropping, although at a bit of a speed sacrifice. (I would happily give up some KB/secs for better results and completions.)
