I've spent about an hour on the phone with tech support with my ISP and believe the problem does not involve my modem but is a conflict with OS X and LW. Anyone else have this problem. More to the point does anyone have a SOLUTION?

If the other suggestions didn't work for you, watch your connections pane when you lose internet connections. If LW tries to run as an Ultrapeer and suddenly all connections are lost, the only workaround I currently know is to check "Disable Ultrapeer" in the speed section of the preferences.
I'm still trying to figure out why this happens for some but not all users. Sometimes others on my LAN were running forced IP gnutella clients like LW and Acquisition. Careful port mapping helped here somewhat (assigning and mapping a different port to each machine). Are you connected directly to the internet with the OSX System Preferences->sharing->firewall settings that allow gnutella?
