Sorry about the lockups, Clem. We're trying hard to make LimeWire as lightweight and speedy as possible, but it's not very easy for a program this complex. All the options and different OSes that LimeWire runs on makes it difficult to test as well, because there's almost an infinite amount of configurations that can change how LimeWire works.
I assume you've tried running the 3.4.1 beta?
Adam is also working on some elegant changes to message processing, which should significantly reduce the amount of threads required (and in turn reduce the amount of memory and CPU required), so that might help stabilize things a bit, although I have no clue when it's going to be released even as a beta.
