Hear hear. Thanks for all your posts Peerless--I find them useful and now fun too.
btw brainiack, do you seriously want to know why I (and 100,000 others) bother with gnutella? Or just LW?
Like roliepolieolie, I'm on Mac and now OSX. Acquisition doesn't offer the detail I need to understand what is developing in this FASCINATING opensource multilanguage multiplatform project (note: it's not yet a proprietary commercial program).
Opensource is a key reason; community is another: above all, solving the problem of how peers can share on a decentralized network

Why Should I Use LimeWire?
At LimeWire, we are working on developing the future of open peer networks and the digital commons. Our goal is to build users a tool that allows them to easily publish content to the world. . . . LimeWire is capable of multiple searches, available in several different languages, and is most famous for its ease-of-use and cross platform compatibility

I don't know what profit financial gurus like Mark Gorton and Greg Bildson may eventually realize by developing LW the way they did, but in the meantime an OPEN tool is being developed that will and has given the non-commercial community some pretty powerful resources.
In short--it's a worthwhile learning experience.
