Finally got this answer from someone in a Mandrake news group:

I used method #2

First, make sure you have followed the instructions in the error
message. You need to have a valid archive for the following to work.

Make sure that your Linux system has a utility called uncompress
installed. This should appear in your /usr/bin directory. If it is not
installed you can try one of two things:

1) Install the required package from your Linux media that contains
uncompress.
2) Create a link from gunzip and call it uncompress in the /usr/bin
directory. gunzip will work to uncompress *.Z files and the install
should complete successfully.

Finally, no more gtk_gnutella...!

I got the same problem, I found in the script itself that the compress and uncompress programs were used (why doesn't Mandrake 8.0 install them by default ???).
But the REAL problem it that when I now start the install, I get :

Preparing to install...
SIGSEGV received at bfffdf58 in /tmp/install.dir.5778/Linux/resource/jre/lib/linux/native_threads/libjava.so.
Processing terminated
Writing stack trace to javacore6850.txt ... ./LimeWireLinux.bin: line 1: 6850 Segmentation fault /tmp/install.dir.5778/Linux/resource/jre/bin/jre -Djava.compiler= -noverify -cp "::/tmp/install.dir.5778/InstallerData:/tmp/install.dir.5778/InstallerData/installer.zip" com.zerog.lax.LAX "/tmp/install.dir.5778/temp.lax" /tmp/env.properties.5778

Wassup ??
