We are currently aware of the problem with LimeWire 3.6.6 and OSX 10.1. We have reverted the downloadable version to 3.5.8 until Monday, when we can fix the problem as a new release.

The reason LimeWire is failing to open is because of a bug in OSX 10.1 that disallows application bundles from having a shell script as the executable. Unfortunately, LimeWire switched in 3.6.6 to using a shell script as the executable to fix the "too many open files" error which many users have reported.

If you would like to continue using 3.6.6, you can follow the instructions below.

--

1) Go to Go -> Applications.
2) Open the LimeWire folder.
3) Control-Click on the 'LimeWire' application and choose 'Show Package Contents'.
4) Open the 'Contents' folder.
5) Double-click on the 'Info.plist' file.

If nothing happens (or an error comes up saying that it doesn't know what Application to use to open the file) then follow the steps 6 through 12. Otherwise (if it opens up in a program called "Property List Editor", follow steps 13 through 17.

6) Control-click on Info.plist and choose "Open With" and then "Other".
7) In the 'Choose Application' dialog, make sure 'Show' is set to 'Recommended Applications' and 'From' is set to 'Applications'.
8) Scroll down on the right and choose 'TextEdit'.
9) In TextEdit, find the line that reads "<key>CFBundleExecutable</key>", and right below it should read "<string>prelude</string>".
10) Change the word prelude to 'LimeWire' so that the line reads "<string>LimeWire</string>" [without the quotes].
11) Then choose the File menu and Save.
12) Open up LimeWire!

13) Expand 'Root' so that it lists a bunch of other information.
14) Locate the line that says "CFBundleExecutable" on the left and "prelude" on the right.
15) Double-click on the word "prelude" and change it to say "LimeWire".
16) Click the File menu and choose Save.
17) Open Up LimeWire!

We're sorry about the problem. A new release will be available early Monday so that you don't have to follow these instructions in order to take advantage of the new features in 3.6.

Thanks,
Sam
