Incomplete files deleted after x hours? I've been using Limewire almost continuously for the last week (now that I have a version that's stable enough that I *want* to use it that often). I've noticed that incomplete downloads seem to vanish after a couple of days. Is Limewire cleaning up after itself by deleting them?
Isn't there some way Limewire could hold onto files which have at least 5% for a somewhat longer period? (Limewire cleaning up the 0kb things that never downloaded is A-OK in my book.) After all, some hosts might only pop onto the network once every two weeks. If auto-deletion is set too "zealously", let's say, then you'll just keep downloading the first 10% over and over again. Lots of beginnings of files, no completed ones.
In fact, just this week I had gotten 68% of a rare file and today I was able to download the rest of it. Unfortunately, Limewire had already deleted the 68% partial file. (I wanted the file so badly I had actually gone into the Incomplete folder and copied the partial file so I had it elsewhere on my HD, and actually ftp'ed the partial file to friends, but that's another story.) This meant I had to download the entire file over again. Fortunately I got to 100% that time, but what if I had only gotten to 50%? I would have two beginnings of the same file, but no ending. That's not an efficient use of bandwidth and network resources as I see it. |
