Can't help you with the iTunes, but the OSX has a built in firewall that's usually turned on by default. That could well be blocking some connections. The Tip of the Day in the help menu has more details on how to open the firewall in System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall->New->Gnutella/Limewire (6346)
btw--I thought 10.1.5 was the best version of the 10.1 series. Maybe Software Update is turned off?
