Hmm...
the p2p applications are for people who donīt know each other - with friends you have better solutions. I would suggest to set up a ftp server for private downloads.
You canīt find your friends files because you are connected to an other part of the net - Gnutella is much bigger than "you" can see, you can only search within a small part of the net. You should read how Gnutella works to understand why.
