I'd suggest you don't downlod these files and don't share them. especially don't download them.
Phex banning those keywords would make no difference and would gain nothing, because the suckers would just rename the files.
Phex banning the Hashes would produce a situation where more and more hashes would need to be banned and soon the ban-list would take up more space, than the program, because every music corp would tell you to ban all copies of theis songs and would soon request, that you use a central ban-list on their servers.
Those who download and share these files can be found by the police pretty easy: They just need to try to download them, and everyone who has them is a sharer of highly illegal materials. Banning would thus even make it more secure to share the files, because the police wouldn't be able to find them (or they'd have to trac all name-changes).
It would be very hard to make money with files on gnutella, so it is hard to make money with that. That means they can be found by the police.
And besides: Phex' share of Gnutella is far to small to make an effect, but large enough to create a precendence of banning keywords, thus it would get nothing good and only bad.
As much as I'd like to stop childporn on Gnutella with Phex: I think the police can do their job. Our meddling might make it harder instead of making it easier. In Europe they just got a big childporn-ring a few month ago, which shows, that those people become too careless, which is rather good. And it shows that the police DOESN'T sit idly.
They just choose to get the big suckers instead of small music-sharers, who don't do as much harm as some labels say. |
