This looks suspiciously like our problem - on my system (although it uses Java 1.4.2) there is no xercesImpl.jar to find in the Home/lib/endorsed folder. And from what I understand what happens here, there is some third party application (not Apple) that installs a xerces implementation in a way it
overrides any version that comes with any other applications. This appears to be a bug in the installaton of the other application, no application should ever install a library in a way that it affects all other applications on the system.
