Most of the advice for OS 9 works for OS 8.6. If your file names are short enough (thanks et voilą) and your Finder still thinks the files belong to LW, rebuild the Mac OS 8.6's invisible desktop.db file.

The free TechTool Lite is probably the easiest way to rebuild your desktop if you don't want to go through holding down command-option just before the hard drive loads after a restart. Plus, TTLite used to have an option to revert the rebuild.

Just curious--when was the last time the desktop was rebuilt?
