Well--back to basics. If you want a fresh start:

Remove all traces of limewire from your system (use Finder's Find command to search everywhere for items containing "lime").

Then, shutdown your machine and restart in Safe Boot mode by holding down the shift key right after the startup sound (you can let go once you see the grey spinning cog). This will automatically check (and fix most) any system problems (links to the details are here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=24092)

Run the Disk Utility to repair permissions

Run Software update (a new security update came out today)

Repeat the whole mess again, then do a regular restart. You now have an optimized system.

Download a new copy of Limewire (3.8.10 is now available).

Try again. What happens now?
