Cannot connect. Maybe firewall? Hi,
I apologize for the vague information to begin with but this is all I know for now. I cannot connect to the network... it tries for a minute or so then registers "Disconnected." I have LimeWire 4.0.4 and am running Windows 2000. I am currently on a dorm network in Spain. I do not know the details of our network connection, and the way things work around here I haven't been able to get them.
This problem is not specific to LimeWire, but seems to happen with all p2p programs as well as file transfers. However, I can download programs off the internet, receive email, etc.
So it sounds to me like I'm behind some sort of external firewall. I do not know the exact speed of my network, but we are probably talking about a T1 -- this isn't dial up. I think we are on the university system even though I am in a "private" dorm.
I know someone has gotten a p2p program to work from this dorm before, but I don't know how, and they are no longer here so I can't ask them how they did it. Most people are under the same impression as me that you just can't connect to Gnutella or other p2p programs. I was wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone and if you have any suggestions for making the connection work?
This may or may not be relevant... I can connect to instant messenger programs although I have to search for an open port. Can't get file transfers to work though.
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
