I don't know if mp3 offers DSS. Dolby surround format to my knowledge uses .AC3
I'd be happy to be corrected about that. But ac3 is in some ways similar to mp3 in the respect that it uses a lower data rate than say wav/aiff. But ac3 can be 24 bit audio & have a much higher sample rate. I can't say much about dts (I've never encoded with it) without reading up on it. I guess it also depends which type of dolby surround you're refering to.
