You haven't told us which OS you're using. On both mac & windows StuffIt Expander (there's a free version!) will decompress rar files. For windows, http://www.stuffit.com/win/expander/index.html & for mac, http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html

There's also winrar. Hope this helps.
