This sounds like a joke. I've never heard of that happening to anyone. But if someone is targetting you & sending you messages, make a note of their ip & add it to your host filter. Go to LW's menu Tools-Options & Filters & select Hosts (Mac osx that's Prefs-Filters....) Then add the ip address in the top section.
Woah I think I misread your post! Whilst u may have an internet connection, LW hasn't connected properly. Have you ever been able to dwnld using LW? Or is this the 1st time you've used the program. In order to do a search, the green connection quality bars on the bottom left of the fist window need to be showing. If they're red, you can't search. If you have a single red bar, then u might not be able to dwnld either. Go to LW's menu & File & select Connect. This will get you connected again. Depending on your connection type, you may be attempting to do too much with your bandwidth; eg: having too many internet apps running, or having more than one p2p apps running, or dwnlding files from a site whilst using LW, or attempting to dwnld too many files from LW at the one time.
You may also need to configure LW so you get the best results out of it. See these threads for ideal configuration ideas:
