I have lost the wrench button in the google toolbar. How to retrieve it, please?

Also, sometimes I want to hide all the buttons on my google oolbar. Somehow, somewhere (excuse my ignorance!) I located the wording "Hide the google toolbar" and I clicked on it but nothing happened.

Grateful if you could help an oldage pensioner who has got a headache from computer navigation which will not give him the results wanted.
