*Closing forums? Why?

Cyclocide, why are you closing forums that `turn into flamewars`?
It's basically just as bad as the moderation on bearshare.net people came here to avoid.
Why? Because along with the flames, those threads also contain some valuable discussion, and closing the thread leaves the last word to a random side of the argument.
Anyway, if people want to continue flaming eachother, what do you care? It's the decision of the people involved. If Vinnie wants to get into a flamewar here instead of bearshare.net...well...why the hell not? There's no reason to close the threads, and good reason not to.

Vinnie has been complaining to CycloCide recently because of all the negative things we're saying about BearShare, and for good reason. I haven't seen a single person beside Vinnie complaining about the subject matter. The only people I have seen complaining are those who don't like Vinnie's overbearing and vulgar attitude.

Then again, maybe Vinnie paid off CycloCide with the dirty money he collects from his adware/spyware software.

I closed them because the people posting in those threads were just flaming each other.

No, on BearShare.net threads/posts were being deleted. Here they're just being closed.

You're right, some of them did have valuable discussion initially; that's why I closed them instead of deleting them.

I care because I'd like to maintain a certain level of professionalism and decency in these forums.

Bearshare.net moderation hasn't even begun yet! And you folks are going all haywire about deleted posts and stuff. I know of only two or three deletion in the Bearshare forums inthe past three months. If there were any more than that I'd be surprised. I'm there everyday so I pretty much know what's going on there.

The few deleted posts - not entire threads - were unproductive for either side of any argument. They were just garbage, so Vinnie took them out. Nothing wrong with that. The rest of the affected thread retained the "meat" of the matter, so there was really no loss of useful information.

I have to laugh. Everyone is going on so paranoid about moderation and it hasn't even begun yet!
