Ok, I don't want any flame wars. Peace. I have been doing exactly that for some days. No offense, but I really know where to find help when I need. I did everything you said, long ago. Used all these host caches. Configured min and max connections. Tried "Remove" and "Reset" a million times. Connections are still unstable. Few results, no matter what. Wait a few minutes? Maybe 2 hours, if I am lucky. I was not running version 2.2.7 - it was version 2.3.0. I really mean it: everybody I know, every single person I know that used to love Bearshare now hates it. Everybody stopped using it. I still won't give up. I am going to try for some time yet. I am stubborn. Friends of mine simply unistalled it. I see people all around complaining. Thank you for your help. I really did all that, many times. I kept trying today for 3 whole hours. No reliable hosts, no relevant results. I didn't foung anything, not one single song I was looking for. Every song I wanted I found in WinMX or AudioGalaxy, and at the same time nothing was showing up in Bearshare. Peace. I don't want a flame war. You are having good results with it? You are the only person I know until now that managed to use it with good results. Either you are lucky or you are lying. |

Morgwen. I am not the only one, I am sorry to tell you. I am really *****d off with it. I am the kind of user that installed a new motherboard, new sound card, new video card, and configured Windows without reinstalling it and it all worked perfectly. I gave support to hardware vendors many times, helped people configure their software. Friends call me to help them solve their problems with their computers. I am not bragging about it. I am telling you the truth: I am almost giving up. I can use all other Gnutella software with better results in my searches. I really loved Bearshare, I told everybody I know to use it. I won't bother you with it anymore. I really appreciate the time you took to answer, but either there is something really beyond my control happening here, or I am getting crazy. Everything works perfectly, including Linux versions of Gnutella software. Bearshare won't work like before. What is happening? I really don't know. Bad luck? I know I am not the only one with all these problems. Things should really be simpler: you start the software, it connects, you do a search, you get a result and download. It was simple before, just that way. Now you have to do it all by hand, and it still won't work. I got so upset about it that I had to tell somebody about my experiences with it. A kind of teraphy, I believe. |

Almost no-one realizes that the family filter drastically decreases the amount of search results you are going to receive. Hell, most don't even realize there is a family filter. Turn it off, see what happens. It's not the only reason why search results are fewer, but it's one of the major reasons. |

2.3.0 does have problems Many people have posted (on various forums) and hundreds have read about connection problems with 2.3.0 I found that I had to delete the contents of my Bearshare folder (excluding the TEMP and DOWNLOAD folder) before reinstalling 2.3.0. It helped me bit, though connections are still sporadic and horizons are still poor. I have often had horizons stuck on 1 for long periods of time before the connection is lost. Other connections are cancelled immediately for no apparent reason (no, they weren't duplicates.) I won't pretend to know what's going on, but I assure you I had much better luck connecting with 2.2.7 |
