I know this is old news but, what about Bearshare Lite? I can still log into it and dl without a problem. Im downloading ten times faster with Bearshare then Limewire. Id hate to lose another good P2P program.

As long as it's working don't change a thing. Lite is still clean of spyware so far,
though the installer has started reporting in whenever somebody installls Lite.

I also have bearshare pro 5.2.1, and I was wondering - is there anyway to tell if your download speed is capped? I want to be able to tell - because if this happens I'll switch to an earlier client or to limewire.

Download something with a lot of sources that usually moves fast.
If none of the sources run freely at well over 64K, you are being throttled.
As you have Pro, the limit may not have been applied to you.

You can get the latest beta in the thread "BearShare has been sabotaged"
right above this one. It was compiled with more generous upper limits than
Pro, like 50 connections per download. Don't forget you need BearStart to
bypass the expiry date.

There is also an older version of bs lite. On www.filehippo.com. It's a good site for new and old downloads.
