Angry Ripped off with the keys!!!

I was well and trully ripped off. I use my pc for a spot of software developing and find my self re-installing Windows quite often. I decided to subscribe to Bear share Pro (at no point did the subscription process mention that you only get four keys per subscription). I came to re-install the other day and when I got to the part where it sked for my email ads it said that I had used all the keys for that subscription and that I needed to pay again. NOT BLOODY LIKELY!!! When I bought Windows XP and a licence I can install it as many times as I like. I still have 380 days of my suscription left so I should be able to install BearShare as many times as I like. I have contacted the support four times over the last two weeks and as of yet no reply. DON'T BUY BEARSHARE PRO!!!

5.1.0b25 is more powerful than Pro anyway, and it came out before the RIAA
apparently started dictating to the new owners how they think BearShare should work. ;]

See this thread: Sticky: BearShare has been sabotaged.

I don't agree with it being more ''powerful''. Its just the same.

...Though I've always used the Pro version with opening it up with a magnet link, I've just start using BearShare again for the occosional song, film and it automatically downloads the newer BearShare Pro. Any ideas?

...Yes I've used the 'test' and BearStart but the test doesn't have the search results like that of the Pro.

So again does anyone know how to stop older versions of Pro downloading the last version of Pro?

It's more powerful because the hard-coded limit of 17 connections per
download in the regular version and 20 (25?) in Pro is set at 50 in the beta
test version, and only in the beta can you force the host module into
ultrapeer mode. These "test" features were never intended for the public.

More importantly, 5.1.0b25 came out before the remote controlled download
throttle was secretly added to the code. At any moment they could cut your
download speed to any level they choose, right down to zero. Some users
have also reported that 5.2 versions fail to download from LimeWire sources
and switching to b25 fixes that annoyance.

Of course, as expected, the new owners have severely crippled the latest
version 6 so that it only lets you find and download music and videos of 15
minutes or less in length. That means you can't get anything else at all.
Such arrogance could only come from the MAFIAA.

Search results vary widely from moment to moment but both Pro and the test
versions were set to perform better than the normal and Lite versions in any
case. If there's a difference between the two it is small enough to be
completely irrelevant. You still find what you're looking for and the rest of the
sources are automatically found during the download.

You cannot stop the upgrade process anymore either. They force the
download on you and then that annoying reminder to install it never goes
away. You could delete the new installer but then it would just download
again. What you can do is switch to b25 because there are no more
updates for that series. That means no back-door download against your will
and no nag.

Popups, what pop… oh yeah! Haven't seen those in years because I did this:

Go into your Internet Options control panel applet and go to the Security tab.
Click on the Restricted Sites icon, then push the Sites button right under that
icon. Add *.bearshare.com to that list.

Also, If you still have Zango on your system (which came with BearShare 5.2 and
up) you can remove it now. Any spyware cleaner should be able to kill that thing.

They crawled into their shell a year and a half ago and nobody has heard from
them since. It's probably because they don't want to face questions about
their close relationship with the RIAA and MPAA crowd.

Anyway, I suspect they still have that no-refund policy and are hiding behind
their EULA, which only gives you four keys. They can get away with not
putting it right on the web pages you saw during registration as long as it's
tucked away in the agreement you had to accept, and it was up to you to
find it.

Anyway, try b25 and forget about them. If you had version 5.2 or 6 you will
find that going "backwards" to that unusually potent test version is actually a
significant upgrade even though the version number is lower.
